Bolingbrook is a city and an agricultural center in the Halia River Delta region. It was founded in the Halia Valley Protectorate after Shecagua conquered a large swath of Ashura-Chana in the Dearborn War. The city was populated mainly by small farmers leaving the Amarillo River Valley in mainland Shecagua, hoping to find new land after larger farmers strong-armed them from their properties.
The city became a hotbed of nativist sentiment during the Valentine War when Ashura-Chana sent reinforcements against the Vitalla, with whom many lower-class Shecaguans openly sympathized. Bolingbrook received an influx of Voronezhic people fleeing persecution conducted by the Holiest Oracle, Djishura D'chmana. Ethnic conflicts between Shecaguans and the Ashura-Chani erupted in the Bolingbrook Riots when the Holiest Oracle demanded that Ashura-Chani people in the Halia Valley openly persecute and remove Voronezhic peoples inhabiting Bolingbrook.
The city was placed under martial law for the remainder of the Valentine War by John Gaff. Ethnic violence tapered off almost entirely by September 2010 after the Battle of Mavitallis, although tensions remained.
The fall of Ashura-Chana to Silvermoon then to Tabatinia deeply frightened Bolingbrookians, and ethnic tensions melted away as a new fear replaced it. Undra Aeruma's fiery Manifest Destiny speech also agitated the city's inhabitants. Bolingbrook openly accepted nearly 10,000 Ashura-Chani immigrants after Suppression Order 002 was issued, although the city increasingly turned away immigrants as the city began to swell and show the effects of overpopulation. Many inhabitants of Bolingbrook, known as clippermen, snuck new immigrants out of the Halia Valley Protectorate and into the cities of the Daishun Republic.
